Sikh Turban Awareness Week 2009
April 12th – April 18th

The Sikh Turban Awareness Week will be organized from April 12th to April 18th during the week of Baisakhi in partnership with about 65 gurdwaras in 27 different states across the United States. Our vision behind the event is to encourage Sikh men and women to make our fellow Americans aware about Sikhism in a very effective manner through one-on-one interaction.
We are requesting the gurdwaras to distribute buttons that say “Ask me why Sikhs wear a Turban” and “The Sikhs” information cards to their congregation and encourage them to wear these buttons all day on Baisakhi Day (April 14th):- that is to work, school, college, running errands, etc. Wearing these buttons will encourage our fellow Americans to ask us questions about Sikhism and our Dastar (Sikh Turban), and the information cards will help us in answering their questions.
Please show your support and commitment to Sikhism by wearing these buttons on Baisakhi day and help us in achieving our vision of a community in which each Sikh men and women would be able to maintain their Sikh identity without the fear of being judged by others. If you cannot wear the buttons on April 14th, then please wear it on any other day in the week of Baisakhi (April 12th – April 18th).
